Ot leaves introducing us to Gulshy . In the morning, Ceri and Dimplefoot have been robbed. We harass the innkeep, but his dudes don’t seem to know anything. There’s a copy of our calling card on the tavern corkboard. Letters scratched into our door, “AL”: maybe some famous thief? We go to Kappa, he’s talking to librarian Thelodin. A note from “Arsene Leblanc”, who wants to match wits with us, over the thefts of some books from the library. He gives our money back. History: phantom thief who announces his plans, steals from the rich and gives to himself, does keep his word, flashy gentleman.
Our plan: disassemble the sought books, hide the pages in other books according to a memorized index code. A few pages on our person, as well as the dummy book(covers). That punk, he pre-hid our books. We’ve found 20/30… he’s watching us, so much for our plan. We kick out the librarian, and block the doors and windows. Lots of searching… find a map of places, list of employee offices, etc.
We make dinner. Read some books: some in ancient form of Elven. We hold tight onto the books we have; Dimplefoot puts some in his clothes, Ceri in her sword.
Almost 11:35: hear a thump, Dimplefoot spots someone dusting himself off. The thief, getting book #30… he stole some completely different books. Well, crap; the only plan of ours that would’ve worked was piling up every single book in the library. But, in the morning he leaves a note saying he was only able to get 10 books, and he wants to meet us.
We go to meet Arsene Leblanc. He confirms that he only got 10; he wanted to test us. He gives us a book on combat techniques (+1 hit). Also, he tells us what little he knows about Spirals. People in conquered cities getting reprogrammed, to instill them with an instinctive hatred of “spirals.” A scant few people can’t be reprogrammed, those people get lots of information, but it may be inaccurate. The propaganda is bland; people who use current mode of magic, which is damaging the fabric of the universe? (Arsene thinks this is lying/incomplete.) Also, more traffic between here and feywild: there is already infiltrated by star people. Why do our foes hide all this? Either learning Spiral-secret gives Spirals an advantage, or else the Spiral-aligned people would not find the argument convincing/bad.
Duel. We swiftsplat them. He gives us money, but makes clear that we’re his entertainment, people get pissed. Later, Kappa gives us a bag of holding.
Research: dragons. Io, Bahamut, Tiamat. Rare. Supposedly, on Gekkoshima (easterly island in Velgard, different culture but still in kingdom), a dragon of great power slumbers. Special rock there: wyrmstone, which has many dragon properties (produces aura). Only appears on the island, but sources replenish. Kappa thinks a 20-person expedition should go; starts with some Sendings while we work on 1-week book.
More research: ancient elven language. Many millennia ago, fey/mortal borders were more fluid, before the eladrin sealed things off. We all get basic knowledge of Ancient Elven, though not enough to read complex history book here.
