Dimplefoot’s bow tells him ancient elven songs, which include info about the orcs, who started as fey spirits in the shadowfell. After a few days, Dieter does a Sending telling us to meet him outside Kensai. En route, green mist: a Barl-Gureh demon and 5 gnolls. This fight, like other mist fights, is silent: they never make noise, not even sounds of being hit. We find and collect the associated Shard of the Knowledge of the Living Gate.
We meet Deiter, he’s been sleeping poorly due to weapon and torture. He kept the dwarf from double-crossing us. He starts a riot and we get into the palace via our door. Gulshy steals some paintings. It’s dark. In throne room, Jugem and some guards. Jugem is a doppleganger? No, it’s a stand-in. Dimplefoot executes one of the guards to get another to talk. We have a discussion about our artifacts, telling Gulshy that it’s bad to piss yours off; Ceri fails to sell people on the lie that her sword gets along with her. We find secret door under the throne.
Guard loot: Just junk. 2* (chainmail, halberd, crossbow); a dagger.
We go through the tunnel, Dimplefoot disarms some traps. We catch up to the Emperor and his Shadar-Kai guards. They’re all tough, but we beat Jugem enough that he surrenders, and his team follows his order. We threaten to let his town decide his fate, which makes him look uncertain. The Shadar-Kai say they took this (dangerous) job to meet the Raven Queen, so Gulshy executes them.
Outside, the townsfolk have done well, not too many loyalists to Jugem. Ceri convinces Dieter not to draw Muramasa right then. Dieter is temporary Prefect. We find the dwarf, and get back the things we lent. We go to Deiter, and he lets us get some stuff from the treasury. We go back to Awalhu, then take a portal back to Iodale with a bunch of Wyrmstone.
We learn that there was an attack on VRL hideout, they have since divided between the old cave and Iodale. We were ratted out by an ex-bandit? Some casualties and losses, including Dr. Kappa’s assistant. They’ve freed another city, with the help of Warforged. Kappa also tells us about another surviving city, a known and isolationist place. We’re not diplomats, but their Count could respond well to offers of assistance.
We get a little manor house to stay in; Gulshy picks up girls with Dimplefoot’s subtle payment assistance, though he’s too innocent. The Lady of Rain and Mending appears in Ceri’s beer. She says Gulshy’s family is safe. She’s disappointed that we haven’t found anything; we promise to ask the mage we know, for ways to visit the Shadowfell.
Ceri arranges a sending to Thomas Weltlich, but he can’t plane-send us immediately. Ceri needs to yell at Gulshy for killing the Shadar-Kai, we need Raven Queen contacts.
