Bonus question for Miravel: why are we “knights”? Something special about us that the Emissaries can perceive, few people have it. All are supposed to be spirals. She doesn’t explain very clearly/thoroughly.
Wetlich lets us get wine from his cellar before we leave. Also an item. 2 days to Krekka; industrialized port town. We rendezvous; turns out our old companions got here too, released by Miravel.
Plan: boat tomorrow to Awalhu, meet Gekkoshima contact there: Gustav Belmond. Expect few people. Gulshy tries to convince workers, the other two try spiral graffiti. Boat goes well, 2 days. Awalhu (town on Gekkoshima) is tropical island. Gustav’s mansion atop cliff.
Stars landing here got sick, especially inland. Stone comes from place inland (temple of the dragon). No political changes, local governors. We talk to Governor Wilheim, but he’s full of BS about orc/goblin raiding parties. We call him on it, he blames Gustav and the “emperor”, wanting to tell us it’s too dangerous to leave town.
We go back to Gustav, get drunk badly, and fail to spy twice. Go us. Gulshy finds tunnel from guest bedroom to back yard. Separatists have taken over. But the locals aren’t happy, and the separatists (Emperor Jugem) don’t want the people to know that there are free people in Velgard. We make Gustav get us his wyrmstone (100lbs, unworked), then we lay a trap for assassins. Four changeling assassins, one dies, the other 3 imprisned by our VRL buddies.
“Emperer Jugem” just rules over this prefecture (bigger than governorship, ~12 on island). We leave one Sending scroll with VRL buddies. We make Gustav lead us to the “Emperor.”
Stars are slowly/partially returning to the night sky.
Second day, get to town Kensai. Gustav gets us in to see the Emperor. He’s a nasty jerk. He says they’re low on wyrmstone because a Tembo moved into the temple, and they’ve been unable to replenish the stone this year. Legendary Wyrmstone weapons exist, but he doesn’t have them: housed deep in the temple. Emperor gives us a scroll about the Twelve Legendary Weapons* (can take one; ego, evil sword, holy sword… hard to translate.) We get a letter of introduction also. He’ll pay us wyrmstone and 1500 each (half cash up front).
Dieter the Lionhearted will be in town tonight. Half-demon? Everyone pretends to hate him, Loyal Citizens all. Turns out he is a tiefling. Super-dramatic, the “Dark Hero” shows up, looking like a romance novel cover. We talk liberation of both temple and prefecture, drink him under the table, draw on him, and plan to meet him later.
*: Weapons: forged from wyrmstone by “someone divine” (godly or priestly?), many types of weapons, tempered by mortal smiths, some have sense-of-self. One was Evil Blade Muramasa, Holy Blade Masamune, bow (burns enemies), greatsword (smash hard things). Murasama must draw blood after unsheathing, Masamune won’t cut unworthy flesh. All stored in temple of dragon, to prevent misuse.
Next town has pro-nationalists, who are happy to be reclaiming Gekkoshima’s identity. Crazy Eddie’s Magic Shop! We get weird linked-door item, even though it only works on wyrmstone.
